In 2016, they filed a petition for guardianship, but Michael Barnett challenged it, citing the legal change in Natalia’s birth year from 2003 to 1989. The Manses adopted Natalia in June 2023.
The Mans family, which includes their children, lived in Indiana before relocating to Tennessee. Antwon works as a Christian pastor. In the documentary, The Curious Case of Natalia Grace, Antwon appears to supporting Natalia during her DNA testing and her confrontation with Michael Barnett. Manses testified during Michael’s 2022 trial, where the court later acquitted Michael Barnett of neglect charges.

Natalia eventually left the Manses in late 2023 to live with Nicole and Vincent DePaul in New York. Cynthia remained listed as the recipient of Natalia’s disability funds during that time. In Season 3 of The Curious Case of Natalia Grace, Cynthia is heard in a recorded call stating, “That is not your daughter, that is mine,” during an argument with Nicole DePaul.
