Ahead of its production start next year, it has been revealed that Christopher Nolan‘s upcoming The Odyssey movie will be using a brand new IMAX camera technology for its filming. The project is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on July 17, 2026.

The special features of the new IMAX camera have been unveiled through a post shared on Reddit. The cutting-edge technology will be 30% quieter than the old IMAX camera, which is “ideal for capturing dialogue and enhancing the sound mix.” The new IMAX camera will also sport upgrades including “a lightweight carbon fiber body and an LCD viewfinder for improved operation.” In addition, it will also have “modern connectivity options like USB-C, Ethernet, WiFi, and Bluetooth.”

Who is involved in The Odyssey movie?

Described as a mythic action epic, The Odyssey will be written and directed by Nolan, based on Greek poet Homer’s classic story of the same name. This marks the Oscar-winning filmmaker’s latest collaboration Universal Pictures following the commercial and critical success of Cillian Murphy’s Oppenheimer biopic. Just like all of Nolan’s previous movies, the upcoming project will boast a star-studded cast including Robert Pattinson, Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o, and more. It will be produced by Nolan and Emma Thomas.

The original story follows Greek hero Odysseus, king of Ithaca, who heads back home after the Trojan War. Presumed dead, Odysseus’ wife Penelope and son Telemachus contend with various suitors who compete for Penelope’s hand in Odysseus’ absence.
